National Parks and Outdoor Activities

You can even spend a day Llama Trekking - you do the walking while the llamas carry your baggage and plenty of refreshments for the day. The local Tourist Information Centre will tell you about designated cycle routes and special interest guided walks exploring the county's fascinating archaeology, wildlife, flora and fauna. The night life is wild too - go on a Bat Walk if you dare at Nunnington Hall or Rievaulx Abbey, or join in a Night Watch in the North Riding Forest Park!

A Coastline with Character

Migrating birds flock to the nature reserves at Spurn, Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs, home to England's largest seabird colony, with over 200,000 birds in the breeding season. Painted boats decorate eh inlets of picturesque fishing villages like Robin Hood's Bay (the end of Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk) and tiny Staithes. Each of the main coastal towns has its own character, such as Whitby with its haunting clifftop abbey and Scarborough, dominated by 12th century castle ruins.

Great Attractions

Yorkshire celebrates its literary connections at the Haworth Parsonage where the Bronte family lived and in the handsome market town of Thirsk, visit The World of James Herriot, housed in Herriot's original surgery. Explore the ruined castles of Skipton, Pickering, and Helmsley and let your imagination run wild.
