Hotels

In a one Star hotel you will find an acceptable level of quality, services and a range of facilities. Moving up the one to five Star rating scale you will find progressively higher quality standards providing better guest care as well as a wider range of facilities and a higher level of services.

Holiday Parks

The British Holiday Parks Scheme has been re-launched for the new millennium. The Engish Tourism Council is using Stars to show the quality rating of holiday parks, touring parks and camping parks. The new parks grading scheme is the result of extensive research into what visitors are looking for, ensuring that you can easily find a park that meets your expectations.

One to Five Stars

Parks are visited annually by trained, impartial assessors. A rating of one to five Stars is awarded. based on the quality of service, cleanliness, environment and facilities provided.

The Rose Award

The English Tourism Council's annual Rose Awards highlight and promote selected high quality caravan parks that also provide a good proportion of first-class caravan holiday holiday homes for hire.

Every classified place to stay has a Fire Certificate where this is required under the Fire Precautions Act, and all carry Public Liability Insurance.

The Diamond ratings for Guest Accommodation reflect visitor expectations of this sector. The quality of what is provided is more important to visitors than a wide range of facilities and services. Therefore, the same minimum requirement for facilities and services applies to all Guest Accommodation from one - five Diamonds, while progressively higher level of quality and customer care must be provided for each of the one-five Diamond ratings.

One Diamond

At One Diamond Guest Accommodation you will find: Clean accommodation, providing acceptable comfort with functional decor and offering, as a minimum, a full cooked or continental breakfast. A good degree of comfort provided for you, with good levels of customer care.

Four Diamond

A Four Diamond Guest Accommodation, you will find (in addition to what is provided at Three Diamond): A very good overall level of quality in all areas and customer care showing very good level of attention to your needs.

Five Diamond

At Five Diamond Guest Accommodation, you will find (in addition to what is provided at Four Diamond): An excellent overall level of quality. For example, ample space with a degree of luxury, an excellent quality bed, high quality furniture, excellent interior design. Breakfast offering a choice of high quality fresh ingredients; other meals, where provided, featuring fresh, seasonal local ingredients. Excellent levels of customer care anticipating your needs.

Gold & Silver Awards

Look out, too, for the English Tourism Council's new Gold & Silver Awards. These are awarded to those establishments which not only achieve the overall quality required for their rating, but also reach the highest levels of quality in those areas which guest identify as being really important to them.


Looking for a self-catering holiday home? Look for the Key. One to Five Key, tells you the range of facilities and equipment you can expect. The more keys, the wider the range.

One Key

Clean and comfortable accommodation with cooker (including oven and grill), fridge, TV adequate table seating provision, full inventory for crockery, cutlery and equipment.

Two Key

Facilities and equipment as for One Key, plus colour TV, automatic electric kettle, easy chair seating, electrical shaver point or adaptor.

Three Key

Facilities and equipment as for Two Key, plus the unit will be self-contained, vauum cleaner, ironing facilities, linen and towels provided free or for hire.

Four Key

Facilities and equipment as for Three Key, plus washing machine and tumble dryer available, garden furniture where thereis a patio or garden, coffee maker.

Five Key
